Consultation with Aboriginal participants via our customer experience team revealed a gap in capability in our service delivery.

Learn

Through engagement with diverse groups - including our First Nations working group, an Aboriginal education provider, icare delivery teams and guided by the Reconciliation Action Plan, we identified a need for a deeper understanding in the following areas to improve the experience for Aboriginal participants:

  • Cultural safety principles
  • Social and emotional wellbeing practices
  • Aboriginal health community-controlled organisations
  • Kinship structures
  • Sorry Business

Act

We developed a learning suite to increase cultural awareness:

  • Foundational understanding and recognition of First Nations cultures, histories, knowledge, and rights, and how this relates to icare
  • Cultural Safety workshops to enhance frontline service delivery capability
  • Self-paced online learning for our people to revisit and learn at anytime
  • Yarning Circles for open discussion and reflection with our First Nations advisor
  • Supporting resources recommended by our First Nations communities (for example, readings, videos, information sites).

There have been more than 500 employee training completions, and enrolments continue.
