icare commences consultation on proposed structural changes
Today, icare began consultation on proposed structural changes aimed at improving outcomes for injured workers, business owners and other NSW Government agencies.
icare provides workers compensation insurance for around four million workers in NSW, via almost 90,000 claims each year, insures all NSW public infrastructure and provides lifetime care for people severely injured on NSW roads.
These proposed changes form part of a broader operational review, carried out over the last three months, to improve icare’s efficiency and effectiveness.
This work builds on the major transformation program, including in response to various reviews, that icare has delivered over the past three years to fix its foundations, strengthen governance, introduce new claims service providers (CSPs) and build a constructive culture.
Our top priority is to maintain continuity of services and continue to improve the outcomes we deliver for the people we serve. There will be no negative impact on the services we provide to injured people, employers and government agencies.
The current proposal for the new structure is consistent with the NSW Government target of reducing senior executive roles by at least 15%. While no changes have yet been confirmed, the proposed changes may result in a 25% reduction in group executive roles and a 20% reduction in senior leadership roles, with a 7% reduction in roles across the organisation. This would result in expense savings of around $23 million annually. The revised organisational structure will help build icare’s efficiency and long-term sustainability.
It is important to note that these numbers are based on the current proposal, and may change as consultation with icare’s people and union representatives continues over the next few weeks. icare is committed to a constructive and transparent culture, and supporting its people through these changes, including finding redeployment opportunities wherever possible.
After the consultation period, feedback will be considered, and it is expected that the final structure will be confirmed in September.
