Celebrating 35 years of ensuring NSW: The Treasury Managed Fund

This month, we celebrate a major milestone, 35 years of the Treasury Managed Fund (TMF).

The TMF was developed in 1989 in response to the NSW Government's recognition of the need for a comprehensive and affordable insurance solution tailored to the specific risks faced by NSW Government agencies.

The TMF is not your typical insurance provider. It's a self-insurance scheme, created by the NSW government for the State: its people, its assets and its services.

Wide-reaching protection: from the Opera House to our everyday needs

The TMF's reach is vast. It covers the iconic landmarks we all know and love, like the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. But it's shield extends far beyond these grand symbols.

It protects hospitals, schools, our drinking water, and the everyday operations of government agencies, from vehicles used for work to slip-and-fall accidents on government premises.

With an impressive reach spanning 220 agencies, protecting over 384,000 NSW public servants, and safeguarding over 299 billion dollars in state assets, it ensures the wellbeing of NSW’s essential public infrastructure.

Workers, assets and beyond: a holistic approach

The TMF offers a number of products to protect the state. Including Workers Compensation which ensures that government employees receive the support they need in case of a work-related injury or illness.

As well as General Lines which covers legal liability, motor vehicles, property, and even protects volunteers who give their time for the NSW community.

This comprehensive cover extends to things like safeguarding precious artworks and travelling exhibitions at institutions like the Gallery of NSW, as well as insuring the festivals we love including Vivid, the Festival of Sydney and the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Even the growing threat of cyberattacks is considered, ensuring that NSW is prepared for any challenges that may come our way.

“The TMF is a positive support function for NSW. Witnessing the impact it has on protecting and restoring our states assets in times of need fills me with immense pride.”
Britt Coombe, Group Executive, General Lines, Insurance for NSW and HBCF

“It's a powerful testament to the collective vision and tireless efforts that brought the TMF to life, and the partnerships developed every day to deliver for our NSW Government agencies, and our State.” she added.

35 years and counting!

The TMF is a not-for-profit scheme, focused solely on ensuring NSW has the robust insurance cover it needs. By providing cover that goes beyond what's commercially available, the TMF guarantees peace of mind and allows NSW to function effectively.

Celebrating 35 years is a significant milestone, and for the TMF, the journey continues. It remains dedicated to safeguarding NSW, its people, and its invaluable assets, for generations to come.
